Mutterings on the Regnant Follies

orld magazine reports on the quandry Jack Kevorkian, the "suicide doctor," found himself in recently. One of the people who requested his help with a suicide was a death-row inmate. Kevorkian declined because he is opposed to the death penalty.

We trust no comment is needed.

There is currently a full-court press against the advertising mascot of Camel cigarettes, and the U.S. Surgeon General, Antonia Novello, has recently gotten into the act. She stated, "It's time that we invite 'Old Joe' Camel himself to take a hike." This was in the context of urging magazines and retailers to refuse to use the mascot in their adverstising.

This is all right, you see, because researchers have recently discovered some marginalia of James Madison that show there was never any intention of granting First Amendment rights to fundamentalist Christians and tobacco companies.

Contra Mundum informs us that PC ("politically correct") standards are getting out of hand. For example, at the University of Connecticut they have prohibited "laughism." This is defined as inappropriate laughter.

But how can they really want us to stop it when they keep provoking us like this?

H. Ross Perot has been in the news lately with his talk about running for president. While he makes good sense on some economic issues, he does support abortion, gun control, and a beefed-up IRS.

And the last thing we need is an efficient bureaucracy.

The Anglican Church in Australia has finally done it now -- they have ordained ten women priests. Conservatives unsuccessfully fought the move, and given how the Australian Anglicans have set things up, there is no appeal. It is a done deal.

And then there are those of us here in the nickel seats who still object to men as priests.

Speaking of women in leadership roles in the church, Tammy Faye Bakker has decided to divorce her husband Jim Bakker, who is going to be in the slammer for some years to come. She turned over control of her church in Orlando to her daughter Tammy Sue.

There are no plans yet to move the whole operation to Australia.

And speaking of Tammy Faye, when announcing her divorce from Jim, she did wonder aloud how the news would affect the Christian world.

Thus far, the Christian world has not been affected at all, except to wonder when Tammy will become part of it.

Some of our elected representatives are apparently fed up. Recently published comments by sixteen senators and representatives actually blamed the voters for the current state of our government.

This is quite true of course, but it is a bit much when the government we deserve starts telling us we have the government we deserve.

We promise we are not making this next one up. The April issue of the Chalcedon Report contains an article with two pages of insights like this, and we quote, "Revelation 4 makes it apparent that Jesus Christ is the Ultimate Healer, the Great Physician, because the rainbow countenance (aura, electromagnetic field) of his throne is emerald green. Emerald green is the color of the heart (which controls the endocrine system) and is the point of love/law balance. (Green is both the color of the heart and of law.) The frequency for emerald green, as manifest in Jesus Christ's (or a person's) countenance (aura, electromagnetic field) is 7.83 hertz . . . This is the Schumann resonant frequency of the earth, too (7.83 hertz), and according to Dr. Bob Beckman of Stanford University, the frequency at which all healers heal."

The author of the article, R.E. McMaster, is obviously breathing very hard, trying to keep up with the latest developments in theology.

World magazine showed manly restraint in soberly reporting the indictment of Bill Honig, the chief of California's government schools -- and self-declared candidate for the office of chief of all other schools. He was indicted for using $222,590 dollars of federal money to pay people who worked for his wife.

We here at Credenda receive this news with the same objective detachment shown by the ancient Jews in Persia upon the shortening of Hamaan's tenure.

Collapse of bolshevism update: According the The American Spectator, Gloria Steinem has linked the collapse of communism to the growth of less authoritarian and less violent child-rearing.

We had no idea!
