rom Us:
We devote this issue to the power of Christian literature. The electronic revolution is still in its infancy, and it is consequently far too early to make predictions; still, we have a suspicion that desktop publishing may have the same sort of effect on the kingdom of God that the invention of the printing press did. But this will only happen if God shows us mercy, and grants us repentance for our theological slothfulness.
When we think about the literature that our fathers produced, with the equipment and constraints they had, and we contrast it with the fluff put out by our modern high-tech, slick Christian publishing houses, there is nothing to do but hang our heads with embarrassment. What would Richard Baxter have done with a word processor? Certainly something other than Witnessing With Frisbees: A Three Step Program.
In this issue we have added three new features, and have expanded Ex Libris, our section for book reviews. We have set aside a page for Similitudes, in which we will tell you stories with a point. The Puritan Eye will provide us with a monthly column from a Puritan writer; this issue is George Gillespie, writing on the scriptural definition of heresy. And lastly, we have added a column entitled Femina, in which my wife Nancy will write to wives about their duties to their husbands and children, as well other related topics .
We are pleased and grateful for the opportunity to publish more pages. We thank God for your generosity which has made the expansion possible -- lplease et us know what you think.
Erratum: Last month in the Cave of Adullam we cited Orthodoxy as our source for Franky Schaeffer's comments on Holy Tradition. The name of the magazine was actually Again. We regret the error, but are pleased to have it demonstrate the fallibility of man in the transmission of information.
We would like to extend a special thanks to Brett and his network of friends in Seattle -- the software is great.
From You:
After picking up a copy of your newsletter, Credenda/Agenda, in our local bookstore, GCB in Elkton, MD we found it to be quite informative! There are so few Christian writers who hold similar views to ours! Please put us on your subscription list so we can read more of this "meaty" newsletter!
Thank you for continuing to send me your publication, I have found it to be helpful. I especially enjoyed the last mutterings from the "Cave of Adullam."
Would it be possible to let your readers know that we would be happy to send them a free copy of our discount catalogue and also some samples of our newsletters, if they will send us their address . . .
Editor's reply: Happy to. Interested readers should write to Mr. Barrow at
Still Waters Revival Books, 4710-37A Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada T6L 3T5. Their phone number is (403) 450-3730.
Still Waters specializes in reprinting theology from an era when the average reader of Christian books did not require their mothers to cut their meat for them.
I am very happy that I can receive Credenda on regular basis. I enjoy reading it very much . . . Your Credenda helps me a lot in my spiritual growth . . . May the Lord bless you.
. . . I would like to say I greatly enjoy reading Credenda/Agenda, then sharing the issues with relatives and friends. It is a pleasure to read articles expressing views decidedly grounded in the written Word . . .
I recently received a sample copy of your Credenda/Agenda (Vol. 3/#9), and found it very informative and helpful. Thank you. Please include me on your subscription list for future issues. I am also interested in obtaining your statement of faith. Finally, is there a particular significance to the oak leaves and acorns on the newsletter header? Any connection with Is. 61:3?
Editor's reply: No, there was no deliberate reference to Isaiah. At the same time, we do believe that the goal of biblical teaching is
to see growth in the saints -- and we prefer growing oaks to growing cabbages.
Thank you very much for the latest issue of Credenda/Agenda. It was great reading . . . Would you please send me five more of your latest issue . . . Please send subscriptions to the following people . . .
Editor's reply: Thanks for helping us spread the word. And if any of the rest of our readers would like us to add the names of
any friends or acquaintances, we would be happy to do so. Just send a list of names and addresses to the address listed on our masthead
on the back page.
